(Mattie Returning From Her “Morning Constitutional”)
Even on a day off, the morning routine doesn’t waver. I still have to get everyone up and get them fed. But at least I don’t have to do it at 5:30 in the morning!
I take out the Parrot’s breakfast I dished up the night before…
…warm up their bean mix you see in the zip-lock baggie, and put it in the bowls on their play gyms. Then I get Parker, Pepper and Nyla uncovered and up.
Parker is taken to the trash can for his morning”Bomb’s Away” which he does without hesitation. Nyla’s next and Pepper? Well, Pepper prefers target practice:
Once everyone has eaten, including Mattie and her bowl of raw diet……I can get on with my day. Today I went to the Dollar Store to see what could be used as enrichment items for my Parrots. I ran into Gary who takes care of the building I live in:
The nearest Dollar Store isn’t far and is conveniently located right next to the grocery store. I take the time to have a look at things when I have time. And I noticed that it is December, people on Facebook are talking about snow and cold and I saw this:
And This:
And this:
And this…
Once I got to the Store, I found a lot of items that could be used for my birds:
These whiffle balls can be stuffed with “stuff” and hung in their cages.
They have to try and get the “Stuff” out:
Straws are great bendable items to stick in stuff, tie into knots or stuff into something…like a whiffle ball.
For the “wood gourmet birds”….
These can be tied onto things, stuffed into things…You’re only limited by your imagination…
And as you can see, there’s a little something for everyone. I’ll continue my “Dollar Store” review in the next post.
Thanks for stopping by!

Haha! Lots of fun!!! Parrots do so enjoy their toys and you are right…you are only limited by your imagination. It is very stimulating for your birds if you provide lots of different types of parrots toys.

Love all the pictures accompanying your story, especially Gary! I hate to tell you though, being a Colorado boy stuck in Virginia, I’m much more jealous of my fb friends with snow, than the warm Florida pictures…but I am jealous of those too!

I miss the snow too! Although I did get my face full when I went to Denver last month for the RMSA Expo; 19 degrees and about a foot of snow. So instead of real snow, I put falling snow on the blog!

wow, the dollar store is excellent for the birds! So you can trust them not to eat anything they shouldn’t? (like the straws) and your bird will actually relieve himself over the trashcan…….great training!

I could set my watch on Parker’s bombs in the trash can! Sandy, birds know what is food and what isn’t. They have an instinct to chew and to gnaw things. You have to provide this for them to feed that instinct. Think of it as chewing gum.
