The Parrot Garden has an unusual and interesting flock in residence. They have a family of Lilac Crowned Amazons: A mother, a father and two of their children. They have been together since those babies hatched. The Parrot Garden is committed to keeping this family together. While they are up for adoption, they must be kept together as a family. Wendy Hatchel explained this family to me and how they ended up at the Parrot Garden. She also explained some of the family dynamics and her views of parent-raised chicks and the differences between this method of raising and hand-raising baby parrots.

The parrot’s so funny. He imitates me and I don’t even realize he’s doing it. I’m walking around the house talking to myself and whistling and the next day he’s said something I’ve said… it’s scary you know?
