Love that picture at the end…..I can picture you zonking out like that with how busy you are and all that traveling you do. I agree that you need to share your food with your critters. I found that Perky , my Too will try almost anything. He loves Mac and cheese and Pork and Beans….so I always give him a spoonful whenever we have it. Usually I feed him from a spoon so he does’nt get his feathers dirty. He loves that extra attention, too. We also give our dog a tiny bit of most of what we eat on his dry food. It can be the slightest amount, even crumbs , but he feels we made it special for him! And, really how many of us could survive, eating exactly the same dry food every meal , everyday?

I agree completely Darlene, and that’s why I think variety is so important to birds. I’d be b bored out of my mind eating the same damned thing evey day, even if it WAS good for me!

I let my blue and gold Stanley eat from my dinner plate about 5 or more nights a week. He loves to pick at my veggies, my bread, mashed potatoes is his favorite. He enjoys it and we all love watching him make a mess for the dogs to clean up. 🙂

I just like to talk about what I’ve learned in a way that doesn’t kill you to read it. If I hate reading it, why should I submit someone else to that torture? I just love to write in a way that tells a story but it has information in it at the same time. Know what I mean, Lynne?

Patricia,
I agree. I heard someone on a talk show say with regard to human nutrition that they follow an “80/20” rule. 80% of the time they behave nutritionally and 20% of the time, they do the pizza, burger etc.
Although I feed my birds a great fresh diet daily, an occasional french fry or piece of pizza crust won’t hurt them. Mostly because “most of the time” they are on a great nutritionally sound diet.
Interesting article and love the pictures!!

Hey Mary!
I am totally on board with you on your comments. I have been banging that “wiggle room” methodology for a while now. If you have them eating great stuff most of the time, and I means nutritionally dense food, then you can get away with a few treats now and then.
