Steve the Aviculture Supervisor of the Bird House did the “Morning Outside Rounds” and I tagged along and attempted to help. Here is Steve feeding some Red Crowned Cranes and Bar Headed Geese. Some Mallards stopped by as well. His aim is better than mine…

Every other day, the Keepers at the Cincinnati Zoo Bird House cut up and mix 200 pounds of fruit which fits into a plastic container the size of a small trunk. I got the extreme pleasure of mixing it. When I left work, bees were following me:

I had to clean the indoor Kea enclosure where they stay when it’s hot. In a few weeks they will be going into Lorikeet Landing for the winter. I’m back at the Cincinnati Zoo and settled into Steve and Carol’s Fabulous stone cottage. It reminds me of the house Jackson Pollock and his wife rented out in Long Island right before he became the “new rising artist” of the 20th century. I had an 18 hour day getting here…I had to get up [...]

Kim Klosterman Hanging the Kea toy in the indoor enclosure Last week I sent a big toy to my friends the Keas at the Cincinnati Zoo. The staff had a pretty good time watching them beat the living hell out of the thing. The Zoo has some Keas in an outdoor enclosure for up close [...]

One of my Favorite songs is by Peter Townsend and Ronnie Lane from an album titled “Rough Mix”. It’s called “Street in the City” and it reminds me of the frenetic activity that occurs in the Bird House behind the scenes every day trying to get all of the birds on their street and in [...]
