Maisy was around when I got the news that I had gotten the column in “BIRD TALK” Magazine. I think we danced. At the time BT didn’t know if it was going to be monthly or every other month, but the column, called “Memo to Parker and Pepper” was definitely in. I had been working for months trying to work up stories for BT trying to get a foothold as a writer and spent hours every day after I had worked a full day on an airplane trying to fine-tune some of my “stuff” as I call it, to make it fit for publishing. I wasn’t a full-blown BT writer yet, so getting this news understandably made me very happy. Maisy simply took it in stride and was very happy to help celebrate!

Dear Mom,
Well Yeah, so Lady got some exciting news and she is a little weird tonight. I don’t know, I just wanted to go out…which I did…repeatedly.
Lady might get a monthly column in a Magazine! (?) Yeah! So she’s having a heart attack and I’m just cruising around for snacks. Scored pretty good in the grazing department today…I got a bean! And I’m very proud My bean! Mine! Yup!
Mattie and I are doing quite well. She’s speeding up and I’m slowing down and it’s working on the good side.
Got a little piece of bread for not going into the food room all the time…
Ran like crazy again to the door…I just love doing the same things over and over and over and over…
So things are cool and I am fine and Lady is kind of tired. She had a lot of work to do after showing up at work at 5 in the morning. She came home and tapped on the silver box, but I stayed with her, because it’s very clear that she needs my help. Oh no! Another job!
So, there you are. Well, bye.
I hope your night went well and I’ll see you when you get home. I love you.
Love,
Maisy

Hi Patricia,
Maisy reminds me of our Australian Shepherd, Sky. Sky has her own blog. I take little responsibility…..Maisy probably should not read it because she might pick up some bad habits, but you would love it! Your writing is always a treat!!!!!

Hi Dana,
Unfortunately, Maisy passed away a year ago this last December.. She was an old dog and well loved. I looked after her in the afternoons during her last year while her Mom, Beverly was getting her Master’s degree in the evening. But we all loved Maisy and I’m happy to reprint this series of letters I wrote for Maisy and left for her Mom while I was taking care of her each day. So, it’s been a poignant reprinting and it’s been fun and tearful at the same time.
