Aaawwww! What a cutie! I love penguins. They are so adorable. I never realized they are this vocal – usually I only get to see them at Sea World behind thick glass. Thanks for sharing this video!
Thats a cutie
This is about the cutest thing in the world!
What type of penguin is it?
It’s a “Little Penguin. They are sometimes called “Fairy Penguins” or “Little Blue Penguins.”
Thanks for sharing!! Soooo cute!!! I loved it!!!!
I pronounce this the best video on the internet. you win!!
I whole heartily agree!
I have so wanted to go to New Zealand to see the little blue fairy penguins.
adorable!
Put this puppy on Youtube and make some money for your zoo, or since it is “home” for the little fellow, how about America’s Funest Home Videos….I must have sent his to 50 people who I know sent it to 100′s + it is on facebook….
Dave,
If you’ll notice, that’s were the link is from. I put it up at Youtube a year and a half ago. It’s just now getting around. But that’s okay!
So adorable! Is Cookie a boy or a girl penguin?
Cookie is a male and he is seven years old.
Is Cookie’s foot ok?
His foot is doing great! He hasn’t had to have bandages in over a year. Isn’t that wonderful?

So glad to hear. Everyone needs a little fun in their life.
This is the cutest thing ever!!! My kids have watched this over and over! Do all Little penguins do this or is it just a cute quirk of Cookie’s?
Hello,
So I do research on humor and laughter and I would love to pick your brain on your experience with these “laughter” like sounds in penguins. Feel free to email me.
Thank you!

This was posted on Wimp.com today – and I have reposted multiple times. Good for election night stress!
Got to see some of these guys down in Oamaru, New Zealand last month. I think the only animal I have seen that’s comparable on the cuteness scale is the pika. I was absolutely dying laughing when I saw a couple of these little penguins mating under a park bench near the harbor at Oamaru; I was laughing so hard I was crying. I wanted to take a pic, but figured the flash would interrupt their good time (the little penguins seem to come in from the ocean after dusk).
Watching about 10-15 of these guys climb up out of the water, stop, look around, and survey the area for a minute or two, then take a few more steps, stop and survey the area, then run like hell to their nests, falling and sliding on their stomachs every few steps, was really something to see at the Oamaru (New Zealand) blue penguin colony. For anyone who wants to make the trip to go see these guys come in by the hundreds there is an added bonus of seeing the shy yellow-eyed penguins a few miles away; they start coming in from the ocean a couple hours earlier than the little blue penguins do too, so you can see them both in a day.
Lots of other places besides Oamaru to see these magnificient creatures in New Zealand and Australia too though.
