I went to visit the Polar Exhibit this morning and got some pretty good penguin footage. I think they were hungry because they were coming right up to me. These are friendly and tame penguins, but they do have their own agenda. Buddy and Maggie are the two Magellanic Penguins that were singing to me, (Well, nagging me…) Bubba is a black-faced Ibis and the little tyke with the red band is a Rockhopper Penguin. His name is Tolstoy.
Love this video clip – especially the little Rockhopper trying to mate with your arm. Reminded me of my days working with penguins at the New England Aquarium in Boston. We had Rockhopper, Little Blue and African penguins (cousins of these Magellanic penguins). The latter also rocked the building with their donkey-like braying! I miss those guys!

You’re right – Cookie is adorable! I love the ending, where Cookie gets all amorous with the keeper’s arm – our little blues at the NEAq were more aloof around us, although they did respond to our voices. But I’ve had many Rockies and African penguins have love affairs with my forearms.
